MEET AKINBAMIDELE AKINTUNDE – MEMBER OF THE PART 5 CONSTITUENCY

Hey there, it is another opportunity to meet the wonderful personality of IFUMSA—a member of the part 5 constituency. Join me as I make welcome, Akinbamidele Akintunde.

MEDIVOICE: Hi, Akintunde, It’s good to have you with us today. Would you be able to introduce yourself?

POTW: I am Akinbamidele Akintunde, however, I go by the nickname IAA. I hail from Ondo State and I am in 500 level.

MEDIVOICE: It is a pleasure having you, once again. Wahala for who no get code name o. So, do you hold any office within or outside IFUMSA?

POTW: Within, no; outside, yes. I hold an office in NIMSA and church.

MEDIVOICE: What inspired you to choose medicine and how has the journey been so far?

POTW: Well all I can say is I got convinced one way or the other that this is the part I should tread. My choosing wasn’t typical neither was it family influence and the journey so far has been hectic, especially this clinicals.

MEDIVOICE: The journey is not for the weak, we go sha survive am. Anyways, everything that has a disadvantage, has an advantage, abi how do they say it? In essence, what is your favorite aspect of medical school, and why?

POTW: Subs posting in part 5. They’re peaceful and stress free.

MEDIVOICE: Ope oo. So we still have hope, looking forward to that peace. How do you balance academics with other aspects of life, such as social activities and self-care?

POTW: By constantly reminding myself that there’s more to life than books. Also, I take a break when needed even if it requires a brief change in environment.

I try to occupy my mind with other things that can serve as a good and healthy distraction from the mental stress.

Having and hanging out with friends outside of medical life also helps. Then I study and meditate on the Word of God which reassures me of God’s unfailing Grace to see me through.

MEDIVOICE: Wow!!! This is all-encompassing, you sef no gree for medicine. Moving on, can you share a memorable experience during your clinical rotation?

POTW: One memorable moment was our consultant buying us refreshments after posting, that’s not typical.

MEDIVOICE: God, me sef i wan see that kind of consultant. So, what specialty are you most interested in, and what motivates your choice?

POTW: Though still undecided but still I’ll say oncology piques my interest.

MEDIVOICE: Great. Next, how has being a member of IFUMSA influenced your growth as a medical student?

POTW: Made me understand the importance of standing out as there are many really outstanding individuals here.

MEDIVOICE: IFUMSA – home for outstanding medics. I think we should imbibe this motto. Ifumsaites, ki le feel? Going on, what advice would you give younger medical students or those aspiring to study medicine?

POTW: For those aspiring, be sure that’s what you want before choosing this path, and for younger medics, know that the journey doesn’t get easier.

MEDIVOICE: Where is the lie? A word is enough for the wise. Ire o. How do you handle the pressures and stress of medical school, especially during exams or clinical assessments?

POTW: I’ve come to understand that everything in life is time bound so I just push and see it through to the end. The challenges of today will soon be past.

MEDIVOICE: Akintunde, you are indeed a wise man, you have been dropping quotes for us. Up next, what are some hobbies or activities you enjoy outside of medicine that help you relax and recharge?

POTW: Escaping (traveling) from Ife especially after a stressful posting,

MEDIVOICE: The bliss of staying close by, you can easily sneak out. So, where do you see yourself in the next five years?

POTW: Where God wants me to be at that point in time.

MEDIVOICE: Amen!! Moving on, do you have any crush in college?

POTW: No.

MEDIVOICE: Okay, what about someone you admire?

POTW: Not sure

MEDIVOICE: Not sure ke…something is fishy oo. Anyways, what or who inspires you?

POTW: Greatness inspires me.
