Medical school is already stressful, but having to think of what to eat every time makes matters worse. But the truth is, food is an important part of being a medical student, what you eat affects how you function and how optimised you are for studying.
More intention has to be put into the meals that we take, and one thing that just helps with that is meal prepping.
What does meal prepping mean?
Meal prepping refers to the act of cooking and storing your food ahead of time.
It might range from preparing veggies to preparing entire meals.
Meal prepping can help save time, money and improve dietary choices.
Getting started on meal prepping.
1. Pick a day for your meal prep.
Weekends work most of the time, pick one of either Saturday or Sunday and block out 2 to 3 hours for planning, shopping and cooking.
2. Get containers
Invest in air-tight, reusable containers. Clear ones allow you to see what’s in them without having to open them, and if you’re fancy, you can decide to label your containers.
3. Get a refrigerator.
The truth is, no refrigerator, no meal prep.
No point in meal prepping if it spoils by Tuesday, honestly.
Meal prepping might seem like a lot at first, but it’s one of the best decisions you’ll make for your busy medical student life. It takes away the stress of always thinking of what to eat and saves you time and money.
