Whether you read so many books last year or read just when the universe made time for you to, as long as your goal this year involves reading books, this piece is for you. Whatever category you fall into, you may want to stick around longer.
No matter what your plan for reading is for the year, you should not fail to include the books in this recommendation list. It is one thing to have books recommended, it is another thing to understand why you should read such books.

On Humor
The Mechanics of Yenagoa by Micheal Afenfia.
This is a book about an excellent Mechanic in the city of Yenagoa with a knack for getting into trouble. Some of these troubles are caused by his affiliations with people; be it family, friends or lover. He also got into some troubles caused by his own hand. If you need a book that will keep you turning the pages until the very end, this is for you.
On Romance
- Ginika’s Bridesmaid Series by Adesuwa Oman Nwokedi: This series is of five parts; parts one to five. Each part focuses on a lady and her love journey. Some of these stories are swoon worthy, while the progression of others may make you annoyed. Overall, the Ginika bridesmaid series are good African Romance reads.
- The One by Adesuwa Oman Nwokedi: This is a prequel to the Ginika’s Bridesmaid Series. If you would like to read the Bridesmaid Series, you should read the one first. Personally, the One is my favourite of the entire series. There is something very beautiful about Erinkan’s love story. If you would like to see what it is pick up this book and thank me later.
- Call me Legachi by Adesuwa Oman Nwokedi: If you are very observant, you would have seen something common to this romance genres. It’s the author. Adesuwa is known for her well crafted African books on love. Legachi tries to savage what is left of her failing relationship by travelling abroad to meet her boyfriend: Mezie. However, things are not what she expects them to be. Will she remain devastated forever? What happens when she is hired by Doctor Roman? You can only find out when you read the book.
On African Books With Similar Themes
If you need to read books that will leave you wallowing in the sorrows of the characters or books that have sprinkles of domestic abuse and violence, or have women going through one form of suffering or another, these should be included in your reading list for the year:
