Dearest gentle readers, it’s a pleasure to welcome you once again to another edition of the Writer’s Interview. Over the months, we have had the privilege of meeting writers across various genres ranging from love and fantasy to poetry. Today, however, we are joined by someone truly special — a writer who beautifully weaves her faith and life experiences into her art. Without further ado, do make yourself comfortable and let’s dive right in.
Hello, it’s nice having you here. Can you briefly introduce yourself?
My name is Susanna Tomilayo Abimbola, a first-class law graduate from Ekiti State University. I am a Christian and I love the joy that my faith brings. I am also obsessed with finance and its intersection with law. Of course, I am a writer( that’s why I’m here!) and love to share my insights, thoughts and experiences through the art of writing.
What does writing represent to you?
Writing presents me with the opportunity to tell my own story and share my thoughts. Like I earlier said, I am a Christian so I like to write along the line of my faith and to encourage and strengthen others. Further, I like to share my own experiences through writing. It is a beautiful way to let people in on the behind-the-scenes of both my failures and successes. I remember writing about securing a very prestigious internship and not being able to take the opportunity because of exams. I also wrote about my final semester at the university among other experiences. People are often able to relate in some sense and the feedbacks are always heart warming.
That is beautiful. So, tell us, does writing come naturally to you or was it something you started with intentionality?
I’ll say it comes naturally to me. It is simply the by-product of reading books. Reading books and finance articles is one of my favorite things to do. I, however, became more intentional in January of 2020 when I started my blog.
Do you have a preferred genre or do you dabble into a bit of everything?
I generally stick to Christian writing and sharing bits of my story. Though sometimes, I participate in essay competitions. Plus, I am currently writing an article that intersects law and finance.
Do you have a favorite book or a favorite author?
Hmm… Let’s do books and authors, please (🥹🙏🏽). My favorite book is The Man God Uses by Oswald J. Smith. I absolutely love it. I also love everything Abi Daré has written so far. She’s my favorite African fiction writer and I thoroughly enjoyed reading The Girl with the Louding Voice and And So I Roar.
I agree that Daré is such an amazing writer. Moving on, do you think there is a nexus between reading and writing?
A hundred percent! I think a writer should read more than they write. The quality of a person’s writing cannot be better than their reads in my opinion. So, my philosophy is read, read, read!
What is the best part of writing for you?
I think reading what you’ve written and thinking to yourself, ‘Wow! I really wrote this!’ I also am thankful to God for light bulb moments of inspiration.
What are your other hobbies asides writing?
Reading, honestly. I read across different genres and topics. I also love catching up with family and friends, and making and eating fried rice.

My family and friends and those who read, like and share my posts.
