Introduction

One of the best parts of having a solid friend group is getting to experience life in Nigeria together, whether it’s spontaneous hangouts or planning something bigger, like a trip.
However, the tricky part is that our minds aren’t always in sync, and getting everyone on the same page can feel like trying to herd cats.
When my friends and I decided we were tired of just talking about traveling and ready to actually do it, I was excited… until the reality of planning hit.
The idea sounded perfect, we would get beautiful views, good food, and take the much-needed escape from our realities. However, executing the trip felt like walking through a maze blindfolded.
Maybe I’m being dramatic. Or maybe I’m just the “mummy” of the group who doesn’t have the patience for chaos.
Either way, someone had to take charge (spoiler: it was me) and here is how I managed to turn our group trip into an actual reality without losing my mind.
Duties and Responsibilities

We all know tasks must be handled if we want the trip to happen. But if you don’t tag each person with their duties, trust me, you’ll all end up staring at each other and not going anywhere in Nigeria.
When sharing duties and responsibilities, you must make a full list of everything that needs to be done.
Break it down clearly and assign one or two tasks per person. Avoid overloading one person and sparing another. You want zero room for excuses when it’s time for each person to deliver.
Here are some essential tasks to share out
- Create the itinerary: Where are you going? What activities are planned?2.
- Craft a realistic budget: Transport, feeding, accommodation, and emergency funds.
- Make enquiries about transport: Compare options and book a bus, car rental, or flights early.
- Plan accommodation: Find affordable hotels, Airbnbs, or guest houses near your destination.
- Pack essentials list: Someone should make a checklist so nobody forgets important stuff like ID cards, medications, or portable chargers.
- Handle health checks: Book a general hospital appointment or basic check-up for everyone. It is better to be safe than sorry.
- Snacks and vibes manager: Assign someone to handle music playlists, games, and snacks for the trip. (This is very important, trust me.)
Little by little, every assigned role adds up to a trip that actually happens. Each person needs to make sure they deliver their quota; when they do not, you can easily point fingers at who is to blame.
Choosing a Destination in Nigeria

Once duties have been fairly shared, the next big step is picking a destination. The person assigned to this task should do their homework and come up with at least five destination options in Nigeria for the group to choose from.
To make the list exciting, it is best to mix things up. Include locations with different vibes, such as beach resorts, nature spots, city adventures, or cultural experiences. This way, there is something for everyone.
After compiling the list, organize a simple voting session. When the majority wins, you have your destination.
Once the destination is locked in, the budget planner must step up. My personal advice is to ask about group packages or discounts. Many destinations offer them, and they can seriously cut costs for everyone.
When the proposed budget is ready, share it with the group. After approval, contributions should start rolling in immediately.
No money, no movement, simple.
With the destination and budget settled, you can now move on to sorting out the finer details of the trip.
Conclusion
Planning a group trip in Nigeria might sound like a lot of work, and honestly, it is. From sharing duties to picking the perfect destination, setting a fair budget, and sorting out transport and accommodation, every step needs some commitment.
But trust me, once everything comes together and you are finally on the road with your friends, laughing over little things and creating memories that will last forever, all the stress will be worth it.
So, if you are thinking about it, start today. Gather your people, plan smart, and give yourself a trip you will always remember. Nigeria has plenty of gems waiting for you to discover, and who better to explore with than your people?
