Prisca couldn’t get over him. He was her dream come true. Her heart skipped at his sight. Consequently, these thoughts ran through her mind as she soaked her pillow with tears, blaming her heart.
Prisca, a 19-year old first-year university student, struggled to navigate campus life. Fear of inadequacy and feelings of inferiority plagued her. As a result, making friends and socializing proved challenging. She blamed her average, church-going parents for her lack of exposure.
Tired of her routine, Prisca craved more from school life. She befriended Grace and Francisca, her coursemates, and life became more interesting. However, she remained unsatisfied.
An insatiable thirst for a lover grew within her. She forgot her mother’s wisdom: “A fool destroys today for something she’ll enjoy in the future if patient.”
Prisca met Justin, a popular third-year student, at a school seminar. She imagined a relationship with him, convinced it would be perfect.
During the school break, Prisca stayed on campus to spend time with Justin. They grew closer, talking and meeting daily. Unfortunately, Justin saw Prisca as a supportive friend, but she misinterpreted his actions as love.
One day, Francisca showed Prisca a photo of Justin with another woman at a club. Disappointed but composed, Prisca decided to confront Justin.
That Friday, Prisca visited Justin unannounced. She accused him of betrayal, pouring out her feelings. Unexpected, Justin explained he valued her only as a friend. Heartbroken, Prisca fled to her hostel, weeping and blaming her “stupid heart” for misreading the situation.
As Prisca sat in her room, surrounded by tissues and feeling sorry for herself, she heard a knock at the door. Suddenly, It was Grace and Francisca. They had come to check on her after hearing about what happened with Justin.
“We brought ice cream and your favorite movies,” Grace said, holding up a bag.
Francisca added, “We’re here for you, Prisca. You don’t need a guy to complete you.”
Prisca managed a small smile. Her friends’ kindness touched her heart. As they settled in for their impromptu movie night, Prisca realized that true friendship was more valuable than any romantic relationship.
Over the next few weeks, Prisca threw herself into her studies and campus activities. She joined a study group and a volunteer organization, making new friends and discovering hidden talents.
One day, while helping at a charity event, Prisca caught the eye of a kind-hearted senior named Michael. In contrast, their friendship developed naturally, without expectations.
As the semester came to an end, Prisca reflected on her journey. She had grown stronger, wiser, and more confident. Her “stupid heart” wasn’t so stupid after all – it had led her to true friendships and self-discovery.
Prisca realized that love would come when the time was right. Meanwhile, she was content with the love she had for herself and the wonderful friends surrounding her. The future looked bright, and Prisca was ready to embrace it with open arms.
