‘I have got every right to live’
‘This is where I want to be right now and no one can change that.’
‘I am entitled to my opinion.’
These are all sentences we make amongst others, to remind people that we have our rights to do whatever we want, to make our decisions, etc. That’s perfectly true. Every human is entitled to their rights and these rights shouldn’t be infringed upon, but how are we going to defend a right we have no idea about?
Let’s see some people’s views on this thing called ‘human rights’.
To deny people their human rights is to challenge their very humanity.
Nelson Mandela
Activism works. So what I’m telling you to do now is to act. Because no one is too small to make a difference.
Greta Thunberg
It means a great deal to those who are oppressed to know that they are not alone. Never let anyone tell you that what you are doing is insignificant.
Desmond Tutu
Peace can only last where human rights are respected, where the people are fed, and where individuals and nations are free.
14th Dalai Lama
Get up, stand up, stand up for your rights. Get up, stand up, don’t give up the fight.
Bob Marley
Humanitarian work isn’t criminal, nor is it heroic. Helping others should be normal.
Sean Binder
A right delayed is a right denied.
Martin Luther King Jr.
There can be no peace without development, no development without peace, and no lasting peace or sustainable development without respect for human rights and the rule of law.
Former UN Deputy Secretary-General Jan Eliasson
The rights of every man are diminished when the rights of one man are threatened.
John F. Kennedy
We declare that human rights are for all of us, all the time: whoever we are and wherever we are from; no matter our class, our opinions, our sexual orientation.
Former UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon
Freedom means the supremacy of human rights everywhere. Our support goes to those who struggle to gain those rights or keep them. Our strength is our unity of purpose. To that high concept, there can be no end save victory.
Franklin D. Roosevelt
Human Rights is something every human has and is entitled to, having known this, we must each work together to see that we protect not only our rights but the rights of everyone around us. Only then can we live in a world free of chaos.
