This valentine, Emily’s phone stayed silent.
Nevertheless, She watched it from her bed, waiting for Daniel’s name to pop up.
She was waiting for a call, a text, anything.
Meanwhile, hours passed. Valentine’s Day was almost over.
Despite her hope,, nothing came. no calls, not even a flash.
Finally, She turned off her phone and cried into her bedsheets.
It was already late and Daniel was nowhere to be found.
However, At 5:30 AM the next morning, someone knocked on her door.
Daniel stood there looking like he hadn’t slept.
Clearly, his eyes were red. His face looked so tired.
Immediately, Emily folded her arms “You didn’t call,” she said.
“Can I come in?” he asked.
She let him inside. Slowly, he sat on the bed and sighed heavily.
Afterwards, he shook his head and lay on the bed.
Quietly, Emily sat beside him. Eventually, Breaking the silence, “My sister’s husband left her yesterday, he said quietly. “On Val’s Day. He Just packed his stuff and coldly walked out”
Suddenly, Emily interrupted. “What!?”
“I spent all day with her. Bitterly, she cried for hours.
Meanwhile, The kids repeatedly kept asking where Daddy went. Unfortunately, I couldn’t say anything to them.”
“Babe, why didn’t you call me? You didn’t even send a text!” Emily responded with a slightly raised tone
“Honestly, I should have called. I know right, I messed up.” Then he reached for his bag and brought out a
piece of paper. “But guess what.. I didn’t sleep last night. All night, I stayed up writing this.
He handed it to her.
Speechless, “Babe….” she said as she flipped through the pages
“It’s a list. Simply put, every reason I love you. Specifically, Not the obvious. Instead, the real things.” He pointed to the first page. “For example, you sing in the shower off-key.”
“Also, You love babies. Also, you save me the last bite of your food even when you want it.”
“Somehow, you remember my birthday but forget your own phone number.”
Suddenly, Emily felt teary.
“I wrote down reasons. In fact, twenty small reasons why I choose you every single day. “
“Because that guy, Sarah’s husband, Eventually, he forgot the small stuff. Gradually, he stopped paying attention.
As a result, he just didn’t love her anymore.”
Daniel’s voice shook. “Above all, Dear, I don’t want to ever leave your side. Moreover, I never want to stop loving you.”
Then, he stood up, faced Emily, and tenderly held her hands.
“Truthfully, I didn’t call yesterday and for that I am sorry. Nevertheless, I didn’t forget about you. Not even for one
second. Yesterday was a whole lot for me and my sister. Yet, you were in my mind. Without fail, You are
always there.”
She looked down at the notebook; his handwriting covered every page. Clearly, all those small
moments he’d noticed. Every single one.In fact, all those tiny, weird reasons that add up to everything.
“Even the way I stretch my hands each time I take something out of the fridge??” Emily
whispered in her mind, utterly amazed.
“To be honest, I was so mad at you,” she said softly. “Literally, throughout yesterday, I kept checking
my phone, constantly, I was waiting for you”
Finally, Emily looked up at him.
His tired eyes. His honest face.
“Still you’re here now,” she said. “In the end, that’s what matters.”
Then, Daniel pulled her close, and she willingly let herself sink into him.
Meanwhile, the world was moving on from valentine flowers and chocolates. But inside her apartment, something real was happening. Not the fake kind of love.
Especially, the kind that shows up tired and messy and one day late. The kind that remembers the small
things and loves them. Equally, the kind that says sorry and means it.
Most importantly, the kind that lasts.
“I love you,” Daniel whispered softly into her hair.
Emily smiled warmly. “I love you, babe”
Absolutely, that was enough. more than enough.
Beyond doubt, It was everything
