YOU CAN BE ANYTHING YOU WANT.

When I got into medical school, most of the people I respected were into politics, and so I thought that if I wanted to be respected, I should go into politics too.
Tried it for a while. I tried to hold up but it just wasn’t my thing. Now I’m learning that you can be anything.

I have a friend who is almost a celebrity because he writes about love. Can you even believe that?
I have one that is a relationship coach. Don’t mind me, I know so many people in love.
One that posts about hair
One on books.

You can be anything and I didn’t know that early enough.
Yoruba people will say Ona kan o wo ja

I know at least 3 people that are trying to get into medicine.
When they come to meet me for advice, my first resolve is to encourage them to get in. Never would I ever discourage someone from their dream. If they fail the first time, I’ll tell them to go again.
But somehow I always let them know, that medicine is not the only way.
I think I lot of people get into medicine because it seems like a secure path, especially in this part of the world. You’ll suffer for a while, finish school and get a job for sure.
It’s true though, everybody wants security.
I think that it’s okay to want security but I think it’s more rewarding to build something of your own.

I like medicine, but I hate that it takes so much of my time. People who want to get in don’t know the rigour, the pangs, the pain. But nothing great comes easy right? And rightfully so. I just think people should be more informed that whatever path they choose can still lead to greatness.

I met an interesting person over the weekend. She, of her own volition, opted out of medicine. She wasn’t failing, she just wanted out and out she went. When I asked her why, she said she wanted time to explore herself and medicine didn’t give her time. I asked how her parents took and she said they weren’t bothered.
God for her! I wish her well.

What’s the whole point of my rant?
It’s that you can be anything you want and you can choose any path you want and you’ll still make something out of yourself as long as you’re diligent and prayerful.

Seeth though a man diligent in his works, he will stand before kings, not mean men.
Prov 22:29
