Today’s Writer’s Interview guest is none other than the News section Chief. We’re excited to have you! But first, kindly introduce yourself.
I am Timilehin Okunola, a 4th year medical student and I also currently serve as the news chairman for Medivoice. Outside medicine, I love sports (football and scrabble), nature and technology.
What has your writing journey been like?
I think almost everyone started their writing journey back in primary school when we were asked to write essays about ourselves. My writing journey has been about growth basically. The fact that I have been in the midst of awesome writers in medivoice for a while and seeing the quality in their work, learning from better people and reading great content online.
You’re right; it almost always starts from either primary or secondary school. So, at this stage, what would you say writing means to you?
To me, writing means communicating with your voice on paper. And in the end that’s what really makes a good writer. When people who read your work and words can literally hear your voice in their head and perfectly understand what point you’re driving at.
Writing means communication. Couldn’t agree more. What do you like to write?
I really don’t have something I like to write per se. I write based on what I feel like writing per time. However, you will probably find me writing about sports more often than not.
Where do you get your inspiration from?
I don’t know. I just write when I feel like it.
What are your other interests apart from writing?
Everyone around me knows it’s writing but this time writing good codes that work lol.
What’s your favorite book?
I love to read books around Nigeria history and probably African people, so the best I’ve read so far is There was a Country by Chinua Achebe
A classic. What’s your favorite writing piece amongst the ones you’ve written?
I don’t think I’m someone with favorites.
Now that’s interesting. What has your role as the News section chief been like for you?
Been fun, ‘cause things we do in the column are things I love doing. So basically, I’m having a good time as the news chairman.
Asides medicine, what career path would you have wanted? I’m thinking journalism lol
Journalism keh? I think I will probably be a Software engineer by now.
How do you combine writing with medical school?
It’s not something really too hard for me. I write during my free time.
