1. Learning to See Failure Differently
We all need to become comfortable with the idea of failure — I say this as much to you as to myself.
I’ve learned that failure, often seen as a calamity, can instead be viewed as falling forward rather than standing still and daydreaming.
Putting yourself out there for those little dreams gives you the courage to chase the larger ones. It helps you feel comfortable in your own skin and reminds you, “I am who I say I am.”
2. Why We Hold Back
Many of us have dreams we want to achieve, but they remain just that dreams.
Some of us are scared to fail; others simply love the idea of the dream more than the work it requires.
Oh, don’t get me wrong; I’m nowhere near perfect. It wouldn’t be far-fetched to say I only just figured some of this out. But I’m writing it down because, as cliché as it sounds, you don’t have to have it all figured out to begin.
3. Just Start — Even Small Steps Count
Perfectionism can be the enemy. Just start.
What’s that little thing within your reach that could move you closer to your dream? It could be as simple as writing a to-do list, learning a new skill, or finally applying to that organization.
We often think it’s the big moment that makes dreams come true but I beg to differ.
It’s the little things; the small, consistent actions that prepare us for those life-changing opportunities.
4. A Lesson from BHAG
I once heard the term BHAG— Big Hairy Audacious Goals — in a speech by the best graduating student of Pan Atlantic University.
It means your goals can be big, messy, and even intimidating. But they’re yours nonetheless.
So, do it afraid. Face failure and take it as both a good pal and a patient teacher.
5. The Takeaway
That speech struck a chord in me. It made me realize how many dreams I’ve kept on hold because I feared failure.
Now, I’m learning to step out and step up. I hope this inspires you to do the same.
What little thing will you do today?
What thoughts will you release so you can welcome Failure as a friend and move one step closer to your dream?
Failure isn’t your enemy; it’s your training ground.
