An ode to Medicine,
When I dared to peer with my peers:
You are a tempestuous ambience.
A confluence of two springs: art and science,
Whence we drink, but still whine of thirst.
And you are a black hole that sucks out radiance
off the face of those who dare to peer.

And a saltless sea, where we have to swim,
If heads are not up, we drown.
And a narrow boulevard at the edge of a cliff,
If we tilt, into oblivion, we fall.
And a mountain, with every height, we lose our breath,
Yet, again, we breathe.
You are the greatest adversary,
Of the bane of man’s beginning.
The custodian of poisons,
The preserver of elixirs.
However, without us, you’re none of those.
Our short lives make the art long,
Our pleasures are sacrificed at the temple of pain
to be your soldiers, and shields against
conditions and their cohorts, and Thanatos,
so, Medicine,
Still, with us, be still!
