ABOUT THE PAPYRUS INITIATIVE

The Papyrus Initiative, also Eyitayo Adeosun Memorial Essay Competition, is an event in honour of the memory of a past Editor-in-Chief of MediVoice, who passed on in his final year as a medical student.

He was intensely passionate about the reading space in Nigeria and we hope to continue to let this passion drive us into making significant contributions to reading/writing in Nigeria.

The first edition of the Papyrus Initiative featured a lecture on Revisiting the Goldmines: Awakening the Reading Culture among Millennials, which was held in December 2018 and had in attendance award winning writer and medical doctor, Dr Dami Ajayi.

The second edition was held in November 2019  on the theme Beneath the Surface: Contemporary Heroism in Nigeria with Ayobami Adebayo, author of award winning novel Stay with Me as the guest speaker.

In addition to the discussions around the theme, a writing competition was also held among secondary school students in Osun State on the topic “HISTORICAL AND CONTEMPORARY HEROINES IN NIGERIA: PERSPECTIVES AND LESSONS”.

This year, winners of the Essay Competition will be awarded at the IFUMSA Health Week. For consistent updates on this year’s competition, click here to join the MediVoice Literary Community Whatsapp page.
