IFL 4.0 Gameweek 1 Round-Up: Exypnos Run Riot, Magna Impress, Unicus Edge Tight Affair

The fourth edition of the IFUMSA Football League kicked off spectacularly, delivering drama, dominance, and grit across Gameweek 1. From Exypnos’ six-goal masterclass to Magna’s midfield magic and Unicus’ calculated victory, the tone for an electrifying season has been firmly set.

🔥 Exypnos 6–0 Impavidus: Exypnos Send Early Shockwaves with Statement Victory

League debutants Impavidus were handed a brutal baptism of fire as title contenders Exypnos opened their campaign with a ruthless 6–0 demolition job. The scoreline wasn’t just a product of brilliance but a calculated, high-octane exhibition of footballing superiority.

Exypnos wasted no time asserting dominance. Within ten minutes, it was 3–0. A devastating double from Van Dijk—both goals assisted by the electric Tolu in the 5th and 7th minutes—stunned Impavidus early. Things went from bad to worse when a defensive miscommunication saw the ball bundled into Impavidus’ net in the 10th minute.

In the second half, roles reversed as Tolu netted a brace of his own, with Van Dijk turning provider. The cherry on top came courtesy of AY Black, whose composed finish sealed a flawless performance.

Impavidus showed flashes of intent but managed just one shot on target, struggling to sustain possession and crumbling under pressure. Their two yellow cards spoke volumes about their frustration. For Exypnos, it’s not just three points—it’s a bold warning to the rest of the league.

⚔️ Magna 2–1 Invictus: Magna’s Midfield Class Edges Past Spirited Invictus

In arguably the most evenly matched weekend encounter, Magna overcame a resilient Invictus side 2–1 in a tactical and high-tempo contest. With flair, grit, and some midfield genius, Magna did just enough to claim all three points.

Obadire broke the deadlock in the 30th minute after a sumptuous assist from Paul, whose vision and composure dictated the tempo for Magna. However, Invictus replied before the break—Mateen pouncing on a rare lapse in Magna’s backline to draw level.

The deadlock persisted until the 70th minute when Pulisic finished off a slick move, again orchestrated by Paul, who delivered his second game assist in a man-of-the-match display.

Magna’s control of proceedings was reflected in 14 total shots, six corners, and dominant possession. Invictus can take solace in a spirited performance and a strong goalkeeping display, but they’ll rue their lack of penetration in the final third.

🧱 Unicus 1–0 Tenacious: Ezekiel the Hero in Cagey Contest as Unicus Grind Out Win

In the weekend’s most tactical affair, Unicus edged Tenacious 1–0 in a disciplined and defensively sound match. With chances at a premium, separating the sides took a moment of quality.

That moment arrived in the 40th minute when Ezekiel latched onto a perfectly weighted pass from Debola, coolly slotting past the keeper to give Unicus the lead—and ultimately, all three points.

Unicus dominated possession and territory, earning six corners and probing the Tenacious backline. Still, they lacked the killer instinct to put the game beyond reach. Tenacious, meanwhile, showed solidity but struggled in the final third, registering just one shot on target all game.

Both teams picked up a yellow card in a tight, tense, and fairly contested match. For Unicus, it’s a winning start and a clean sheet to build upon. For Tenacious, improvements are needed up front, especially with Exypnos up next.
