In today’s edition of the Personality of the Week, Medivoice features a distinguished member of the Exypnos Medicos Class.
Medivoice: Good day Chief, can we meet you, please?
Taofikat: Yeah, I’m Ikotun Taofikat, a 600 level medical student at Obafemi Awolowo University.
Medivoice: Okay, let’s start from our common home here, College!😊How well has college been to you so far. ?
Taofikat: College has been good to me. When I first entered 200 level, it was a bit tough especially when I saw my first in-course result but there’s been a lot of improvement since then. Also, I think most of it was due to my trial-and-error method then. I tried new methods and used them consistently which later worked well for me. From 200 level till now, I’ve been growing in a very good way and I hope to continue and become better.
Medivoice: That’s so sweet to hear😊So, moving on, if you’re to give yourself a thumbs up, regarding a particular level(either clinical or preclinical) which would it be?
Taofikat: Clinicals, 400 level.
Medivoice: Wow, why would you go for 400 level?🤔
Taofikat: Well, I enjoyed 400 level. I had a schedule that I followed to the best of my ability and this helped in my academics. I think 400 level was my best year in medical school
Medivoice: Furthermore, you’re a Muslim and the month of Ramadan had been concluded with the Eid celebration, a few days ago. You’ve tasted Ramadan at home and on campus, which would you highly recommend?
Taofikat: As for me, I highly recommend fasting in school
Medivoice: Fasting in school? Even without Pap and Akara?😄Okay, why would you go for that?
Taofikat: Hmm, Because I get to eat what I like. For me, I eat better in school so it is easier for me to fast in school. Also, I, have more time to myself in school so I’m able to plan my activities and follow up on them compared to when I’m at home. Since you are working in school, you feel the effects of fasting less. The only problem is reading coz I can’t assimilate well without food😄😄
Medivoice: I like your point 🤩. Lest I forget, have you ever faced any challenges concerning your dressing in college?
Taofikat: Yes, once. A consultant asked me if I was allowed to wear a scarf. It was weird because she was the first person to ever ask me such a question so I was a bit baffled on how to respond to her.
Medivoice: ohhhh😶 let’s proceed.
An interesting question now😁, If you were to be a day IFUMSA President, what difference would you make in your 24 hours in office?
Taofikat: Well, I would make mentoring medical students by alumni a priority. It would be nice if there is a one-on-one mentoring relationship with people who have gone through this same process
Medivoice:Nice one, absolutely nice💯.
Lastly, Shout out to a friend who made your preclinical days.
Taofikat: Tote Tote. Obaniyi Oluwatotele made my preclinical days. We were studying partners and we stayed in the same hostel so I was always disturbing her. Thank you very much Totele.
Medivoice: Thank you very much Tote for being a very good friend to Taofikat during her preclinical days.🤩
