Leadership in medical school comes with unique challenges, but Peculiar Odunayo Olujobi has embraced them with dedication and purpose. As the Assistant General Secretary (AGS) of the Ife Medical Students’ Association (IFUMSA), she balances academics with leadership while working to create opportunities for IFUMSAites, In this exclusive MediVoice interview, Peculiar shares her journey, her experiences in office, and her vision for the future of IFUMSA.
Medivoice: Hi, can we meet you?
Peculiar: My name is Peculiar Odunayo Olujobi. I’m a part 2 medical student of Obafemi Awolowo University.
Medivoice: Do you hold any position in IFUMSA?
Yes, I am currently the Assistant General Secretary of IFUMSA.
Medivoice: How do you see this tenure to go in the coming months?
This tenure is going to be bringing in a lot of opportunities for ifumsaites in the coming month. There will a lot of work going into projects, and as a result, the coming months will be a bit stressful and time demanding but of course we are committed to carrying out our responsibilities regardless.
MediVoice: Our AGS, thank you for sparing your time with us. Since you entered the office in January, how has it been so far?
It’s been a great experience. While there have been challenges, they’ve come with valuable lessons and opportunities to improve.
Medivoice: How has it been handling the office alongside academics?
Honestly, one of my fear was how I was going to balance both sides. But long before now I’ve held other positions that helped me build my balance. I also had one on one conversation with my predicesors months before taking up this post on how they were able to navigate this path. I think I’ve been doing pretty much well balancing both side.
Medivoice: However, what should the IFUMSAITES be expecting from the office of the AGS.
An efficient, approachable, and dependable office that prioritizes service, accountability, and the interests of IFUMSAITES.
Medivoice : Do you have any words for MediVoice?
Medivoice is like a family and I want to say. Thank you for the privilege to be a member of medivoice.
Medivoice: What has been the major shift for you since you entered the office?
The major shift has been taking on greater responsibility, moving from simply participating in activities to being directly responsible for planning, coordination, and ensuring things run smoothly. It has strengthened my leadership, organization, and teamwork.
