A REPORT ON THE IFUMSA ELECTION (2023)

It’s the beginning of a new leadership era and after another IFUMSA election, the members of the association are eager to see what the new administration has in stock for them.

The recruitment process that preceded the election of the new executives commenced with the voters registration that lasted from the 30th of October to the 12th of November. Consequently, a total of 12 candidates indicated interest in the eight executive offices.

The candidates for the presidential office were Atoyebi Evelyn and Temitayo Femi-Matthew. The office of the vice president, General Secretary, Treasurer, Director of sports, and Public relations officer each had only an aspirant, however. The names of the aspirants were Ezembu Victoria, Azodo Chukwuemeka, Mustapha Beauty Abiola, Adeleke Stephen Oluwatobi, and Godswill Amarachi respectively.

Interestingly, the office of the Assistant General Secretary had quite a number of people who indicated interest in her. It could pass for the nerve center of the electoral process, as everyone earnestly awaited who will eventually occupy the office of the Assistant General Secretary. The aspirants for this office were Arowosola Damilola Esther, Ajao Oluwatimilehin Samuel, and Akinyemi Favour. The office of the Welfare secretary also had two aspirants, in persons of Afeez Oladimeji and Oladipupo Ayomipo Mary.

The electoral process continued with the screening of the candidates on the 18th of November at the IFUMSA secretariat. The result of the screening process was released in less than 24 hours and all candidates except the General secretary aspirant proceeded to the next stage. The disqualification of the aspirant stemmed from non-participation in the screening process.

Followed by the screening exercise was the Debate night on the 23rd of November. The aspirants of the executive offices put forward convincing points on this night to their various proponents. Closely followed by the debate night was the Speech night. From the name, it was the night to listen to captivating speeches, grandeur messages, and gallant manifestos from the electoral aspirants. By this time, 70% of IFUMSAITES must have made their choices regarding who to exercise their franchise for, because the day after the speech night was the D-day, the day of the election!

Finally, on the 25th of November 2023, IFUMSAITES made their choice on the people at the helm of affairs of their magnificent association. This they did by exercising their votes through an online electoral poll. The electoral committee of the association put up great work to ensure the smooth sailing of the whole process. The results of the election were also out the same day. Finally, the reflected choices of Ifumsaites in the election are as follows;

President – Temitayo Femi-Matthew
Vice-President – Ezembu Victoria Eberechukwu
Assistant General Secretary – Ajao Oluwatimileyin Samuel
Welfare Secretary – Oladimeji Afeez
Public relations officer – Amarachi Godswill Nwankwo
Director of Sport – Adeleke Stephen

We wish the newly elected officials a great time in office. We also wish them the outstanding capability to uphold the trust of IFUMSAITES who have decided to entrust the affairs of the association in their hands, to lead her to tremendous heights.
