Editor’s Note

Lock up your libraries if you like; but there is no gate, no lock, no bolt that you can set upon the freedom of my mind.

Virginia Woolf

With the past few weeks have come events that must have shaken even the most cynical of Nigerians. The exposure of rot, deeper than most of us have previously imagined, has fueled many to demand for a better country that proves its service to its citizens.

One of the responses from leaders so far has been to propose regulation of social media activities. This is not a new idea. Historically, leaderships have attempted to shut down and shut up the same people whose voices they should invite and respond to. But let Woolf’s quote be a reminder that indeed, minds can not be locked up. Books can be burned, libraries can be locked up, switches can be flicked off, but our minds have no limits. People’s desire for change can only be delayed for so long, and right now, the only option is to get on board.
