Wheew! It’s been a long september, filled with the rigors of postings, fund raisings and planning for the 34th IFUMSA health week (September 20-28). Gladly, none of these ended in tears and we can all celebrate the success of one of the best health weeks in recent times.
Personally, I was extremely privileged to have served as the local organizing committee Vice-chairman, working alongside the boss himself; Agboola Femi and a host of other passionate IFUMSITES and executives, led by President Agbaje Tosin.
While planning this health week, we considered different ways of transforming the human capital of medical students and consequently came up with mind blowing event line up with unprecedented creativity and ingenuity.
Starting from the opening ceremony; The Wale okediran finals and sports fiesta where the sportsmanship of Ifumsites was celebrated.
The ihac outreach to Ipetumodu where we recorded 100% success with cervical cancer screening carried out for female residents above 20. Successful surgeries and various medical check ups were also done.
Day three featured the maiden edition of the IFUMSA interfaculty debate, in which six faculties in OAU showcased impeccable oratory prowess.
We also had the highly anticipated articine event where arts and medicine coalesced to create something phenomenal, with medical students displaying an array of artistic abilities ranging from painting, music, dance to poetry performances. Indeed, this is what we love to see.
Day four featured lots of amazing events too, like the second IFUMSA annual scientific conference, the medical innovative challenge and the public lecture, with Professor Victor Adetiloye (CMD, OAU Teaching Hospital) as the guest speaker.
Day six involved us giving back to our immediate society. Free hepatitis B,C screening and various check ups were done for the students and staffs of OAU.
What is a Health week without a dinner to relieve everyone of the stress of medical school and all of that? That’s why the mystical twilight dinner came as a balm to soothe our aching party muscles. And yh! It was the perfect way to wrap up a beautiful and carefully woven health week.
Special thanks has to go to all medivoice members for having a total live coverage of all the events during the week and carrying the MEDIVOICE flag high!
Finally, you can guess what the highlight of the awards night was for me and every member of my crew? We bagged our first ever award for the best organ! In a year that had all the organs/committees giving their A plus game, I’m more than honored to have medivoice coming on top. This is a proof that all our hardwork and constant desire to keep delivering the best content to you guys didn’t go unnoticed, and for this, we’re extremely grateful.
This is definitely not the last chapter in our success story, so grab a drink and revel in the unfolding of our masterpiece.
Yours truly,
Salami Muteeat,
Editor-In-Chief 2019.
