I never knew the moments we shared
Would be a memory so soon.
We agreed to be each other’s forever
But cancer had other plans.
It crept in unexpectedly and made itself at home in the body we shared.
The sparkle in your eyes slowly dimmed as cancer kept eating deep.
The smiles we shared turned to pain and tears…
And not too long…
death got what it wanted.
It could only steal your presence from me,
But it could never steal you from my heart.
I sit here sunset after sunset,
With you in my heart.
Though I never get to look into those hazel eyes anymore,
You’d forever be present with me and be my safest place.
