New York

If you are reading this, you probably have been alive for more than five years. So you probably know about 2020. People couldn’t travel to their heart’s content, on account of the ‘Rona and also because their heart’s content is not a feasible location. Now we’ve been voluntarily or involuntarily pushed into a new year — 2021! Yay! How very exciting but not really. We’re going to start the year off with an ideal location. New York.

New York was named after the grand old Duke of York. One of the grand old dukes, anyway. It is one of the most populated cities in the world and an amazing place to visit. In the words of BoJack Horseman, “New York is a great city to live in for six months and not one second longer.”

The Statue of Liberty is popular for both her history and beauty. The statue depicts Libertas, the Greek goddess of liberty holding a tabula ansata inscribed with the letters, “JULY IV MDCCLXXVI,” which is just a fancy roman way of writing “July 4, 1776,” a truly historic day when George Washington smiled. and when the United States of America won their Independence. The statue of liberty was once made of copper. She’s still made of copper but the copper has oxidized over the years to form the beautiful green of copper oxide we know and love.

Many a movie or book as been set in New York, one of the most popular American states. One of my favorite is “Friends.” My feelings for this series about the titular six friends is obviously echoed by millions of viewers as “central perk,”. The fictional restaurant in which the cast hung out has become a hot spot for tourists.

We mustn’t forget Broadway. One of the most magical places in the world. Show-stopping performances like Wicked, Hamilton, and Heathers are shown there regularly. It’s so much talent in one place. If you like musicals, which you should, Broadway is basically heaven on earth. Except there’s much less hallelujah going on.

In the words of one of my favourite poets, “London is satisfied, Paris is resigned, but New York is always hopeful. Always it believes that something good is about to come off, and it must hurry to meet it

New York is a place where even orphan immigrants can rise up because when you’re living on your knees, you rise up. In New York, you can be a new man. New York is a place where people stream in with eyes filled with hope and dreams. And New York, with all its beauty and wonder and spirit, is just that, a city of hope.
