The Oscars, The Grammys and Everything In Between

Well, the last couple of weeks have certainly been eventful and the Smith family seem to be the center of all the drama going on. It all happened on the evening of the 27th of March when Will Smith stormed the stage of the Oscars to acquaint Chris Rock’s cheek with the palm of his hand for making an off-script G.I Jane joke about his wife, Jada Pinkett Smith. That singular acquaintance has had the Internet in a chokehold. Different people have had different reactions to it, some people are in support of the brief acquaintance, others are not and others just want to laugh at the memes that singular event generated.

There have been a brief number of offshoots from that event. An interesting one is the case of Zoe Isabella Kravitz. Zoe had recently earned the goodwill of the Internet after her role in Batman as Catwoman. She was the new biracial woman that the world was fascinated with. All of that went down the drain when she posted her pictures from the Oscars night with a caption that had the internet playing the biggest game of “this you?”

Past interviews and past Instagram posts were scrutinized anew. An excerpt from a particular interview she had previously made the rounds quickly, changing the public’s opinion of her quickly.

Outside all that drama, other things did go on at the Oscars like Dune winning the most awards that night. Dune, the adaptation of Frank Herbert’s novel bagged 6 Oscars for Music, Best Sound, Special Effects, Set Design, Editing, and Photography.

Lin Manuel Miranda missed his chance on becoming an EGOT winner as Dos Oroguitas lost the Oscar to No time to Die by Billie Eilish and her brother Finneas O’Connell for Best Original Song.

Talking about songs, music’s biggest night, the 64th Grammy awards was on the night of the 3rd of April, 2022. The Grammys was not as eventful as the Oscars but certain things did happen.

To no one’s surprise (at least I don’t think anyone should have been surprised), BTS did not win a grammy. This fuelled accusations that the Grammys were using them for views considering the boys were invited to perform. For the second year in a row, they did the boys and armys dirty. They lost the award to Sza and Doja Cat’s Kiss Me More marking SZA and Doja Cat’s first Grammy win.

Billie Eilish lost all her nominations (7 in total). So did Justin Bieber (8 nominations) and Lil Nas X (5 nominations).

The recipients of the big 4 awards include Silk Sonic with their song Leave The Door Open winning Record of The Year. They also won the award for Song of the Year.

Olivia Rodrigo took home the award for Best New Artist. We are by Jon Batiste made a surprising win for Album of The Year.

In addition to winning Best New Artist, Olivia Rodrigo also won the awards for Best Pop Solo Performance with her song, drivers license, and Best Pop Vocal Album.

The red carpet pictures from both events left us with not much to write about. They were underwhelming and none swept us off our feet.

Music. Books. Dramas.
