Defining forever

Forever is 568 days, and 3 hours and 21 minutes long.
Forever is until you are tired of my nonsense.
Forever is until you find someone else.
Forever was,
Forever will never again be.
I wasn’t even your first “forever.”

I just wish I’d known what forever was,
When you told me,
That harmattan morning,
Under the leafless mango tree,
Marked with our initials,
That you would love me forever.

My forever is an eternity though.
And even though we’re 6 ft apart,
As I sit on an unmarked grave,
Under the leafy mango tree,
Now ripe with sweet fruit,
Still marked with our initials,
I sincerely don’t think you’ll ever leave me.
