The Scalpels Gets First Incision Wrong

The Scalpels of IFUMSA kick-started their campaign in the Health Football League with a two-nil loss to the Druggist of Ife Pharmacy. The match, which happened to be the Druggist second game of the competition, was played on Saturday, 27th March 2021, at the Obafemi Awolowo University Sports Complex training pitch 2.

The Scalpels had a very sloppy start to the game, which the Druggist capitalised on. The Druggist was one goal up in the 4th minute of the game after the Scalpels’ Damilola (PKA Dr Bush) couldn’t properly control a pass from Debola, which led to the druggist attacker Saheed gaining the ball and placing it into the back of the Scalpels’ net.

The Druggist were two goals to the good in the eighth minute when one of the druggist midfielders, Ayo, saw the Scalpels’ goalie off his line and dropped a beautiful shot into the back of the net. However, the Scalpels were able to find themselves after conceding the second goal, which saw their playmaker playing in lots of through balls that weren’t converted.

The second half kicked-off with the Scalpels making two substitutions by bringing on Sheriff and Japheth in place of Debola and Ayomide. However, these changes seemed to make matters worse as the Scalpels failed to create chances in the second period. After a keenly contested second half, the Druggist finally walked home with all 3 points.

This result would have coach Folarin revisit his drawing board and definitely improve his team. The Scalpels currently sit at the bottom of the log with 0 points, and the Druggist sits comfortably at the top of the log with 6 points. After claiming their first 3 points today against the Dentist who sits on the fourth position, the Therapist occupies the second spot, goals behind the Nurses who have only one point from their draw against the Dentist in their opening game.

The Scalpels would be taking on the nurses next week, and this time they would be hoping they get their tactics right and possibly grab their first point(s) of the tournament.
