The scalpels of IFUMSA suffered a disappointing two-nil defeat to the Faculty of Technology in their group C opener at the OAU sports festival 2021. The match took place at the OAU Mainbowl sports complex on Tuesday evening. At the last edition which was held in 2019, both teams progressed past the group stages losing to the Faculty of Arts who went on to win the tournament. The tech bros progressed to the semi-finals.
The game started with the tech bros on the strong foot, getting more of the possession and registering four attempts on target in the first half. Early In the second half, the scalpels came out stronger, coming close to scoring thrice. However, the tech bros grabbed the opener in the 62nd minute after a poor clearance from the scalpels defence. Five minutes after, they grabbed the second and were totally in control of the game.
The group stage of the sports festival which marks part of Great Ife’s diamond jubilee celebrations continues and the Faculty of tech will be facing off with Law students by 4 pm on Thursday. Then the scalpels will be facing off with the law students by 4 pm on Saturday, 28th of August 2021 in a must-win final group game to salvage their chances of qualifying for the next round from the three-team group.
