The Blockbuster Journey Continues

The 35th IFUMSA health week continues its blockbuster journey into its fourth day with the highly anticipated public lecture. With all that you have probably heard, this year’s public lecture is going to be one for the ages. If you haven’t heard anything, then be prepared to be wowed by everything this year’s lecture has for you. Before we move on to tell you all you need to know about tomorrow’s lecture, let’s take a trip down memory lane to the last public lecture that held on the 26th of September, 2019. 

The theme of the lecture was Transforming Human Capital: The Story of Education and Health. Every attendee of that lecture can testify of the life-changing revelations they got from the lecture. The lecture was graced by the presence of the late Prof. Jerome Elusiyan, who represented Prof. Victor Adetiloye. Prof. Elusiyan’s lecture remains fresh in the hearts of everyone who attended the lecture, even as we keep the memory of the great Emeritus alive. 

This year’s lecture packs an even bigger punch with a theme that lies so close to home:

Theme: Gender-Based Violence (GBV); Prevention and Response Services.

Sub-theme: Violence Against Women; Health Implications, Correcting Social Norms Through Legislative Reforms.

Date: 1st of June, 2021.

Venue: Oduduwa Hall, OAU, Ile-Ife. 

Time: 9:00am

GBV, being one of the pertinent topics in our contemporary society with an astronomical daily increase in the number of victims, is a direct call for its explicit description and toll on victims. This event presents an interactive session, encouraging extensive discuss, about the topic.

The lineup of speakers and panellists for tomorrow’s event says everything there is to say about what you stand to gain:

Speakers

  1. Barr. Olubusola Olaboopo (Hon. Commissioner, Ministry of Women, Children, and Social Affairs, Osun State)

  2. Funke Adesiyan (The Special Assistant to the First lady of Nigeria on Domestic and Social events)

Panellists

  1. Egemba Chinonso (Aproko Doctor) is a medical doctor, writer, vlogger and public speaker. He’s a digital influencer and the founder of aprokodoctor.com.

  2. Ademidun Akindele is an assistant programme manager with an International Business degree from the University of Kent.

  3. Sonnia Agu is a Nigerian social entrepreneur and the founder of “The Sapio Club” and G1st international Foundation. He’s also an ECOWAS youth ambassador.

  4. Olusola Ogunbiyi is a clinical psychologist and psychotherapist. He’s also a mental health advocate, writer, and researcher.

  5. Dr Boladele Mapayi is a senior lecturer and consultant psychiatrist at OAUTHC with an MSc and PhD in clinical psychology. Also an erstwhile director of programmes at the “Women against Rape Sexual Harassment and Exploitation” (WARSHE) and secretary to “Sexual Violence Action Group” (SVAG) in her institution.

  6. Dayo Akeredolu Esq, a Legal Aid Lead, Gender Mobile Initiative
